The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is a Federal Agency that has enthusiastically changed the lives of millions throughout the United States by the promotion of health education and community programs. With their energy, they have been involved in community health awareness, nutrition, education, and public policy to support and encourage well-balanced lifestyles. Rottman Creative Group (RCG) has been working with NACCHO for years to provide essential and enthralling materials that define their programs and motivate those involved.

NACCHO aimed to demonstrate their successful, active and nutritional programs created in several counties throughout the United States. The compendium revealed the agency’s strategies for approaching certain areas of the country where healthy community building was needed. Strategies were followed by focusing on the disparities and individual community needs that defined the unique development of each program. From there on, the compendium outlined each program, which contained it’s description, community involvement, unique components, challenges, and future plans. Because of the abundant amount of information presented, RCG designed the booklet with a thematic color choice and organized each program with a common structural scheme. While colors remained a constant, RCG delicately incorporated background graphics symbolic to health promotion and an active diet. Each program featured quotes from the community or agency officials that were emphasized on small navy blue and green foundations. The booklet contained a considerable amount of white space that enhanced the significance of each program’s vital information. The focus of the compendium was the energy of NACCHO’s programs, and RCG worked to empower the programs with a professional and transparent structure.

In January 2005, NACCHO chose to outline one of their successful active programs in their First Report. The site project, PACE EH, was defined as a guidance tool for local public health officials that provided structural steps for assisting a community-based environmental health evaluation. The report outlined each of the thirteen tasks that created a uniform assessment of community environmental health issues. Each task detailed the specific techniques for a proper analysis of the community. RCG decided to incorporate its methodology into the design of the report, with a succinct presentation of the information in a gold, green, gray, and maroon color scheme to amplify a strong composition. The report also included a professional amount of white space and soft background graphics focused on the environmental initiative. The maroon was used to highlight the idea of action throughout the report and complemented the project’s inferences in the final site specifics. Its composition was finalized in a compact, analytical, and motivational design for progress.

RCG has also collaborated with NACCHO in other program efforts directed toward safe community endeavors. In 2005, NACCHO concentrated on preventative measures to reduce the public health problem concerning impairment while driving. NACCHO targeted rural communities in the United States that had high fatality percentages from alcohol-related car accidents. NACCHO provided funding and program initiatives for counties that created activities and awareness through enforcement, education, and media channels. RCG designed the compendium with severe color choices to assert the grave importance of NACCHO’s program efforts. The cover was simple and direct, situated on a black background and double yellow line to represent the agency’s concentration. The word “Impaired” was designed in a translucent, distorted font to emphasize the severity of its impact on the road. The pages embodied the descriptions of each program, statistics, prevention mechanisms, barriers, components, and contact information. The information was mounted on white space, further highlighted with state graphics in the background. The road concept was conveyed as a border of each page to reassert the main thesis of the compendium. RCG’s design accurately prioritized the importance of addressing the risks of fatality, and the harsh realities that still threaten strong communities.

NACCHO’s endless efforts in several public areas remain committed to influencing and inventing ways to build optimism on a local level. RCG took their ambitions to another inspiring level with the incorporation of multi-media technology. NACCHO's DVD, “Public Health and Planning 101: Community Design”, was created to inform communities of the vitality of local partnerships. It encompassed the challenges within local communities and how to build strong relationships to achieve community prosperity. The DVD multi-media addition was a direct approach that provided a commendable and motivating overview of community concerns and program planning. RCG also developed a “Communication and Problem Solving Skills for Safety Inspectors” DVD that also embraced the imperative role of protecting citizens and keeping the community healthy. It analyzed the importance of inspection, and carefully communicated the advantages to a safe lifestyle. Both multi-media DVDs were essential to promote positive awareness in a comprehensible and community-conscientious visual.
