Membership Magazine for Associations

A membership magazine has the unique challenge of both retaining current readership and attracting new members. It must capture the essence of the organization while also delivering reliability, consistency, and value. Essential Teacher, a magazine for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. (TESOL) accomplishes this through the innovative design and unusual perspectives that accompany the core content.

RCG worked closely with TESOL to develop Essential Teacher, from the conception of the premiere issue to the current design and layout of five issues per year. The challenge was to develop a publication that appealed to a diverse readership and provided an appropriate medium for transferring knowledge to the membership. At the same time, Essential Teacher also hoped to provide a refreshing and inspiring look at the TESOL profession.

The result was an eye-catching yet functional magazine. The Essential Teacher cover was distinctive and compelling – comprising bold refreshing colors coupled with abstract photos and graphics. A cohesive mix of vibrant imagery lended to the magazine’s continuity and delivery of information. In 2004, RCG received the Communicator Crystal Award in recognition of the excellent design and presentation of TESOL’s Essential Teacher.
