Technology and Effective CommunicationsI received the most confusing letter in the mail a week ago. It
read as follows: Dear Resident Stop Sale of Lifetime Stop on 23rd and
Jefferson Stop at MacGruders Stop Tomorrow Stop.
I had no idea what to make of this letter, but there was one thing that was blatantly obvious: there was a whole lot of stopping involved. In the end, my confusion got the best of me and I showed the letter to a friend to see if he could understand it. After a week of researching, he found that the letter wasn’t a letter at all. It was a telegram telling me about a sale at a local store called MacGruders that took place a week ago.
As a result of this telegram, I reached two conclusions. The first, I’m not involved in some terrorist plot to stop a sale from occurring. The second, technology plays a vital role in effective communications!
It’s true. To fully communicate any message we must understand the world in which we live in and the role that technology plays in the lives of our targeted audience. For example, if you send a telegram, which is outdated technology, to a target audience of young people, they may not have any idea what you’re talking about and your message could ultimately fail. Why? Because you failed to embrace the technological identity of your target audience. continued
In the fast paced, hustle and bustle of these modern times, technology in an integral part of the identity of people in our society. Communication in a digital world is easily accessible, quick and powerful. We can use digital technology to communicate social, economic, political and cultural perspectives with just the click of a button. It is now possible to communicate and extract information through websites, PDF’s, video clips, animation and flash, just to name a few.
These are all great things to take into account when considering a means of communicating a message.
We have seen the immense popularity and growth of www.youtube.com, a website where videos can be posted and seen by anyone who has access to the internet. YouTube has been thought by many to be powerful enough to sway the opinions of voters in upcoming elections.
By understanding the vital role technology plays in the lives of your target audience, you can make sure your message is delivered in the right manner and that it doesn’t fall upon deaf ears. |
