"Going Green"

It’s tee-time folks!

We’ve got our plaid pants on, collared shirts buttoned, irons polished, and we’ve lined up for the long drive to the green. We’re hitting off 2008 straight down the fairway. There will be no hooks, no slices. RCG is “Going Green,” and you can bet your bottom dollar this is a round you won’t want to miss!

Here at Rottman Creative Group, we’re making big changes that’ll knock your argyle socks right off your feet (even the knee-highs!). We’re talking about focusing on what’s important—our environment. Like our golf score, we’re aiming to keep our environmental carbon emissions as low as possible. To us, it all begins with picking the right club to get you there. This means we’ll be using trusted FSC-certified printers that buy their paper supply from proper forest management companies, and we’ll be utilizing better services and technologies that are also environmentally friendly.  Why use a driver on the green when you can sink the ball with your new high-quality putter? We’re not out to make divots here, ladies and gents. Now that’s just absurd. This isn’t a game. Going Green is serious.

The most important part of our goal is that we are committed. Going Green is about taking responsibility, protecting our environment, and making a difference. Below is our new Going Green statement. Pull up the flag, caddy boy! We’re aiming for a hole-in-one!

Rottman Creative Group (RCG) is dedicated to environmentally responsible practices that will contribute to reducing the global impact of environmental destruction. In compliance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) certification requirements (a global standard-setter for forest management), Rottman Creative Group is committed to using environmentally preferable printing systems devoted to forest conservation and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Although RCG has always been a supporter of FSC-certified printing, this year the group plans to take it a step further.  The positive impacts of going green and increasing carbon offsets has lead Rottman Creative Group to commit at least 85% of all printing to be done by FSC-certified printers by the end of 2008, and 99% by 2009. RCG’s commitment to cleaner technologies will help neutralize the impact of global warming and ensure our active role in protecting the environment.

These are a few RCGreen objectives during our first year of commitment:
Choosing the putter:
(Like we mentioned before, it all begins with a good set of clubs. Since that’s the case, we’ll take the best printers you’ve got!)

Our use of printers with FSC Chain-of-Custody certification guarantees that the wood comes from certified, responsibly managed forests, and is tracked from the source up to the printers. This ensures that manufactured products or paper according to FSC guidelines are produced with a focus on preserving the richness of forests, and impacting economic, social, and environmental concerns.

(In another sense, let’s just say we swing and shank the ball way left, hitting a few trees on the way down; maybe we had a large printing order.  It’s just common courtesy to make sure those trees are being properly nurtured and back to peak physical shape in no time!)

Visualizing the distance:
(We're not big fans of soy milk, despite its healthy reputation. Regular dairy keeps our bones strong while walking the course. But when it comes to printing, we’re all about those soy-based inks. Check this out, as we get closer to the green dream!)

The use of environmentally friendly soy-based inks not only creates a more rich, vivid color for our printing, but also helps prevent pollution (low in volatile organic compounds), and is a safe, sustainable, and renewable resource. It also promotes paper recycling because it is more easily stripped from paper during the “de-inking” process of recycling.

Sinking that putt:
(If you know a thing or two about golfing, someone’s always “yapping” about the importance of the short game. You won’t believe how much of a difference it makes.  Take a look at what we’re doing to develop our short game, right here in the office!)

RCG has also developed internal strategies for our environmental responsibility.
By using Apple computers (one of the first companies to eliminate toxic chemicals from its hardware), recycling our toners, using recycled paper and utilizing FedEx packaging (which is made of recycled materials), RCG is committed to new ways of being conscientious within the workplace to help preserve the integrity of our environment.

Now that’s the way to play a good round of golf if you ask us. From now on, we’re teeing up and swinging with the big guys. Tiger won’t have a stroke on us! We’re not just making it to the green, we’re putting to win—and by doing so, everyone wins. You can assure the family next time you go out for a round that Going Green isn’t just for leisure. It’s something we all should care about and participate in. We encourage you to take the challenge of “Going Green” yourselves, whether within the company or at home, and see how you hold up to par!
